PWC - Peruvian Wire Crochet

An incredible technique for artisan jewelry applications!

During the COVID lock-down I was looking for ways to calm down the anxiety I was facing and I took an online course on wire crochet. From that moment on I became hooked on it that I went on and proceeded with a full certification course and several specialized courses with very unique and ingenious techniques to learn how to modify the wire.

Peruvian Wire Crochet, Punto Peruano in Spanish, is a unique technique for using your crochet hook and a fine gauge copper wire (or other similar metals) creating a gorgeous net made of wire. This technique involves the creation of a two-step stitch and modifying it in innumerable ways to create two dimensional and three dimensional pieces.

Because it works better for the creation of small/medium size pieces, it is perfect for jewelry and other small applications in metal without the use of a torch. This was an important decision factor, without the use of a torch, as I did not have a jewelry studio at that time but a table and a chair.

The preferred metal of work is copper due to its easiness to find in the market, the abundance of colors available, the glow, durability and easy care. Copper is such a noble metal that has become a favorite! When copper wire is worked with beads, crystals or pearls I am amazed at their beauty. Besides, it is so fun to create and much more to wear.
